New Delhi: To ensure the safety of users from electrical leakage hazards, Havells India Ltd. and TATA Power-DDL today signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen the distribution of electrical protection devices in the northern and northwestern regions of Delhi.

At the same time, the two companies have also planned an extensive awareness and training program to encourage the use of properly installed circuit protection devices-ELCB and MCB. At the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding, Tata Power Delhi Power Distribution Co., Ltd. CEO Sanjay Banga and Havells India Ltd. President Saurabh Goel attended the meeting.

Well-known power distribution companies in the country are linked with leading power brands to ensure power safety.

TPDDL CEO Sanjay Banga welcomed the association. He said: “Tata Power-DDL is committed to consumer safety and has worked hand in hand with Havells to significantly reduce power-related accidents that cause loss of life and property. I urge all consumers to stay at home / Install appropriate leakage protection devices in the premises. In order to further strengthen the demand for electrical safety, we will also increase the sensitivity of consumers and arrange for local electricians to conduct training on the importance and implementation of safety technology."

ELCBs are essential to ensure personal safety because they can protect us from current leakage. Today, we are surrounded by electrical equipment. Due to the lack of unused proper protective equipment, most of us are unaware of the dangers that come with it. Delhi has recorded the largest number of electrical-related deaths in the past ten years. Deploying miniature circuit breakers (MCB) is the most common way to ensure that electrical equipment is protected from short circuits and overloads. However, MCB cannot ensure the safety of users when it leaks. According to the Regulatory Guide (DERC) ELCB is required because Delhi will not supply power to the new connection unless a suitable leakage protection device is installed in the consumer premises.

Commenting on the partnership, Saurabh Goel, President of Havells India Ltd, said: “We are very pleased to cooperate with Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd to distribute electrical protection equipment in its distribution areas. As a responsible company, Havells always puts user safety first , So it’s the only company that provides a 6-year warranty for miniature circuit breakers (MCB) and residual current circuit breakers (ELCB/RCCB) used with Havells switchboards. The association will help us improve consumers’ We will ensure that consumers understand the use of ground leakage circuit breakers (ELCB) through the TATA Power-DDL customer service center."

Havells plans to reach out to 6,000 consumers who apply for new connections every month and 1.7 million residential and industrial users of Tata Power-DDL. Havells' main focus is on human safety equipment, including earth leakage circuit breakers (ELCB/RCCB), socket earth leakage devices (RCD) and portable earth leakage devices (PRCD).

As a power distribution company in northern and northwestern Delhi, Tata Power-DDL works closely with electricians, residents' welfare associations, and industrial welfare associations to spread awareness about various good practices in installation and use. Usually electrical problems are caused by short circuits, overloads, leakage and voltage fluctuations. Necessary precautions must be taken, such as ELCB/RCCB with 30mA sensitivity, to prevent human life from being harmed by any such threats. From October 1, 2019, all 12 Tata Power-DDL customer service centers will provide Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers (ELCB) at subsidized prices.
