JOHOR BARU: The Johor Health Department has dismissed a claim stating there were deaths during a power outage at the Hospital Sultan Ismail (HSI) here.

State Health director Datuk Dr Aman Rabu said an investigation was conducted which found that a power breaker had tripped at the HSI main building on Wednesday at about 11.10pm.

"Normal power supply was affected but essential power supply from the generator was fully functioning.

"Investigations by the concession company also found that the Air Circuit Breaker (ACB) had tripped," he said in a statement here on Thursday (Sept 2).

He added that the source of the trip had been identified and repair works had been carried out.

"The maintenance and resupply work continued until 9am Thursday, and normal power supply to the main building was fully restored by about 9.30am.

"There was no major implication to the well-being of the patients receiving treatment at the emergency department, Covid-19 Temporary Treatment Centre (CTTC) and the wards.

"The majority of the Covid-19 patients in categories three, four and five are using oxygen outlets inside the ward and oxygen cylinders that do not require electricity," he said.

Dr Aman also said that in critical wards such as the intensive care unit (ICU) and the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), ventilators are directly connected to the essential power supply.

"The management would like to stress that there were no deaths recorded due to this power trip," he added.
