Saurabh Goel is the President of Havells India

With the advent of summer, as we begin to use electrical equipment such as air conditioners, fans, and coolers, power consumption increases exponentially. The emerging trend of "working from home" has increased the electrical load with the use of laptops, mobile phones, TVs and other devices. The increase in power consumption may increase the risk of electrical accidents. According to the National Criminal Records Bureau (NCRB), at least 3,000 people in the country die from electricity-related accidents during the season each year. Therefore, the power infrastructure must keep pace with the rising load in the house. Unfortunately, people either do not know or ignore this basic information, which often leads to life-threatening accidents. In order to provide our family with a safer home, it is necessary to equip our home with equipment that acts as a safety barrier to protect us from electrical hazards. Here are 4 safety tips to help our loved ones stay safe this summer.

Install RCCB or ELCB to ensure safety and avoid leakage

One of the most overlooked devices in the family is the RCCB or ELCB, which is a key device that can disconnect the circuit within a fraction of a second in the event of a leakage, thereby preventing electric shock. Although it is a device that can prevent electric shock and save precious lives, nearly 90% of households do not have such a device. Many state governments/DISCOM have taken correct measures to mandate RCCB/ELCB, but it is difficult to ensure the necessary installation of RCCB. However, the innovative ELCB is now easily used as a plug or adapter to provide socket-level current leakage protection, and can be installed on washing machines, air coolers, water heaters (geyser)-basically all devices that are more sensitive to water and electricity-interpersonal Associate. RCCB is usually called a human body protection device and is a must-have for every family.

Surge protection equipment protects your expensive home appliances

Generally, older buildings do not have built-in voltage surge protection devices in their electrical plans. According to ICA-India data, about 35% of reported short-circuit and fire accidents are from buildings with outdated electrical layouts; if surge protection is not part of the circuit, frequent voltage surges may instantly damage every house in the house Electrical Equipment. The surge protection device suppresses the transient voltage and transfers the surge to the ground, thereby bypassing the device, thereby protecting expensive electronic equipment.

Avoid current overload and short circuit-Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB)

In modern homes, the use of more and more electrical equipment in the home will cause current overload. The family, equipped with various electrical and electronic equipment, requires the correct combination of switchgear, which can isolate the circuit and protect the electrical equipment (and precious human life). Therefore, installing a miniature circuit breaker (MCB) in the distribution box can ensure protection against current overload and short circuit. These circuit breakers have different ratings for different types of loads, so they need to be used with the right quality, the right company, and the right load.

Wires are the "veins and arteries" of our house, and they should be treated with care like other electrical aspects of the house. The inability to use wires of the correct rating, quality, and health is the biggest cause of electrical hazards in houses. It usually receives little or no attention after installation, and is only revisited when it needs to be replaced or repaired. Nearly 13% of accidental fires are caused by short circuits and poor wiring. If the house has been in use for more than 20 years, it may not be able to handle the increasing number of appliances in today’s ordinary households, such as computers, widescreen TVs, video and game consoles, microwave ovens, water heaters, and air conditioners. We now have wire equipment that can immediately detect current changes and control them to avoid accidents. They are more suitable for coastal areas and places with more rainfall.

Safety is the first priority and should be guaranteed to be foolproof. It is always better to use the highest quality electrical equipment than to eventually pay for the losses caused by a sudden electrical accident. You can save the lives of your loved ones and ensure peace of mind by making slight modifications to the electrical accessories in your home.
