Eaton’s Power Xpert UX International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) rated high voltage switchgear system is designed for the most critical applications. The company's focus is to develop the latest power distribution and protection technologies to optimize the performance of any installation while ensuring the safety of personnel and equipment.

With more than 90 years of experience, Eaton can provide the right equipment for the most demanding applications.

As a global platform, the Power Xpert UX switchgear system is designed according to the latest IEC standards and is fully supported by Eaton’s global manufacturing plants.

“The Power Xpert UX switchgear system complies with the latest specifications that focus on the ultimate safety of personnel when near the switchgear panel,” explains Johan Els, Eaton’s product manager.

He added that the device was designed with safety in mind. Not only is the mechanical and electrical interlocking necessary in terms of specifications, but Eaton’s R&D team also believes that the safety of the operator is the most important.

Power Xpert UX builds on the success and tradition of Eaton’s Unitole MV switchgear. UX is a global design that has passed the latest IEC 62271 -100 and -200 standards certification. UX is a complete series of up to 4000 A, 50 kA-3s short circuit withstand and 50 kA-1s AFLR internal arc classification.

Power Xpert UX is designed as a modular system, allowing full customization to meet specific application requirements. The system’s extensive feature set can be customized to meet customers’ strict performance, reliability and safety requirements, using Eaton’s extensive experience in insulation technology, combined with cast resin insulation and a fully insulated busbar system.

Els explained that the design features include a combination of vacuum interrupters for switches, cast resin technology and clean air as an insulating medium, ensuring that Power Xpert UX is an environmentally friendly system while protecting the safety of operators.

"When you consider the types of customers who need medium voltage switchgear, safety is the most important thing," he said.

Eaton’s expertise in switchgear innovation, including casting resin, vacuum circuit breaker and contactor technology, arc interruption and electric field control, has been incorporated into the design and development of the device.

"This ensures that the switchgear always has the highest level of safety and operational reliability," Els said.

Withdrawable vacuum contactor switchgear has the highest performance, safety and functionality, with a mechanical life of up to 10,000 times.

The compact UX design is based on Eaton’s leading vacuum technology, offering panel widths of 600 mm, 800 mm, and 1,000 mm, and three system voltages of 12 kV, 17.5 kV, and 24 kV.

Eaton’s latest vacuum circuit breaker W-VACi is the core of Power Xpert UX. W-VACi adopts advanced vacuum interrupter contact design, which has a longer service life and is very compact.

This year, Eaton’s Power Xpert UX has been designated for multiple South African and international projects, including a project in Ghana, where the company provided electronic housing solutions.

"The e-house is completely mobile and is completely built in South Africa before shipment," Els said, emphasizing that the system can be easily adapted to customer-specific factory requirements.

Eaton also provided Power Xpert UX as a solution for its main feedwater substation for a large data center in Johannesburg, and provided equipment to the local municipality that powers the newly built hospital.

Els emphasized that the footprint of Eaton’s Power Xpert UX switchgear is one of the most compact of all systems on the market, because the rated current of the vacuum circuit breaker panel ranges from 630/1250A to 31.5 kA, which occupies a smaller footprint— —About 37% —Higher than similar switchgear solutions on the market.

"If you consider a substation with up to 40 panels, saving 37% of the floor space is very important. It will require less building materials and a smaller area. For example, this is particularly important for data centers or retail industries. Important," he concluded.

Eaton’s electrical business is a global leader, with deep regional application expertise in power distribution and circuit protection; power quality, backup power and energy storage; control and automation; life safety and security; structural solutions; and harsh and dangerous Environmental solutions.

Through end-to-end services, channels, and integrated digital platforms and insights, Eaton is promoting important issues across industries and around the world to help customers solve the most critical power management challenges.

Eaton’s mission is to improve the quality of life and the environment through the use of power management technologies and services.

They provide sustainable solutions to help their customers manage electricity, hydraulics, and mechanical power safely, efficiently, and reliably.

Eaton has more than 700 employees and numerous distributors in Africa, which gives them the opportunity to help customers grow and provide sustainable economic benefits to the communities in which they operate.
