The Klein ET310 circuit breaker finder with GFCI socket tester can easily combine two key diagnostic tools into one. I use it when adding outlets and fixtures in a retail store. Combine it with the new Klein Tools voltage tester ET45, and you have a powerful circuit tracking and testing duo.

As an old saying goes, working without tools like Klein Tools circuit breaker finder and GFCI socket tester is like working on a stream without paddles. If you don't want the diagnosis to take longer than the cure, then it will definitely help. Klein's combination of these two devices is not the first of its kind, but it is also a bit unusual (in a good way).

Operating the Klein ET310 circuit breaker finder is easy. You plug the transmitter into the socket in question and go to the panel with the receiver to find the circuit. When the receiver is turned on (powered by the included 9-volt battery), the tip lights up green. When the receiver finds the correct circuit, the red light turns on and an audible indication is emitted.

The receiver mimics a socket, so you can plug in and store the transmitter after use. It keeps a pair together, so you (hopefully) avoid losing one of them. The people at PTR claimed that I lost a lot of tools, so...accept the challenge!

The Klein Circuit Breaker Detector receiver occasionally flashes red and makes a ghost voltage sound. This is not a big problem, just flip the circuit breaker to verify. Experienced professionals understand false positives, but it may trip up some DIY enthusiasts.

To test the GFCI circuit, simply press the gray button of the transmitter to simulate a trip. If it fails, it needs to be replaced. The transmitter also has familiar examples of correct and incorrect wiring, corresponding to various combinations of its three LEDs.

The circuit breaker detector built by Klein can withstand a 6.6-foot drop. The tool also has a CAT II 120V rating and a 3-minute automatic shutdown timer to save on-board battery.

The Klein circuit breaker finder with GFCI socket tester (ET310) sells for approximately $50. Let's take a look at the competition area:

The Klein circuit breaker finder with GFCI tester combines two key diagnostic tools in a sturdy package at a reasonable price. It is a smart idea to design two components to be plugged together. We also like the automatic shutdown function to save 9V battery. This is a useful combination of electrical installation tools for Pro and serious DIYer. This tool can be added well to anyone's toolkit.
